I am soooo late to the game with this.
I was only delira to be asked to do this back in August but of course I was in full wedding swing and had to wind down on the oul blog postings. Nominated by the ever wonderful Tully Tales, the Blogger Recognition Award is a tool used within the blogging community that provides an opportunity for bloggers to talk about themselves, the motivation behind their site and dole out advice to other bloggers, if possible.
Basically it’s a great excuse for the writers to get a little personal with their readers.
How theshelbelle Started
I’ve always loved writing. English was one of the few subjects that I enjoyed in school. While bogged down in the middle of some work related exams last April, procrastination took over and I found myself dreaming up a multitude of different things I would do once freedom set in. Among these great ideas was starting a blog.
After I finished the exams I forgot about the idea and went back to my regularly scheduled lifestyle of working all hours and using any remaining free time to plan my wedding. June rolled around and I once again found myself in the same rut. This time I decided to just go for it and without thinking twice I created the site and typed up my first piece. My new hobby became the perfect pick me up that I was looking for. It allowed me to channel energy into something other then work and wedding related chores (I ended up writing a lot about wedding stuff but whatevs). The rather uncatchy name is a result of me not wanting to wait around for the perfect website name before getting started – I have no regrets (well, hardly any) about it.
The past few months have been an enjoyable challenge. I’ve learned lot and while it’s still an ongoing process it’s not one that I’m likely to give up on any time soon.
My Advice to Newbie Bloggers
I previously posted about what I’d learned about blogging so far but as a follow up:
Just do it – not to copy Nike but just go for it. If you’ve an inkling that you want to start a blog, a vlog or whatever it is then just dive straight in and go for it.
Don’t overthink it – a common mistake that people can fall into is overthinking the process. The content you’ll post about, the viewers you’re aiming for, future plans etc – this is all well and good but it can become overwhelming and lead to a burnout before you even get started. In my experience it’s best to just go for it and learn along the way. With that attitude you can’t really go wrong (potentially bad website names aside).
Learn from others – there’s so many people in the same boat as you that it would be a missed opportunity not to try and learn from them. Also, the blogging community is super friendly and can help you out with any questions on wordpress or other blogging related tools that you may have.
So there you have it, now while I couldn’t think of 15 other bloggers to choose, I will nominate the following that were previously mentioned on my four to follow:
- Gourmet Grazing
- Cardigan Jezebel
- Holy Chic
- Beauty and the Masseuse
- Squidgy Moments
- An Aesthetic Mind
- My Face or Yours
The above are under no pressure to complete the below (not that I could make them anyway). However if you’d like to then think of it as a fun and inspirational tool to use if you’re ever looking for something to post about. To complete, your next steps are;
- Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
- Write a post to show your award
- Give a brief story of how your blog started
- Give pieces of advice to new bloggers
- Select 15 (or however many you feel is appropriate) other bloggers you want to give this award to
- Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.
